God is dying, and he needs willfully ignorant people to live.
Funny. I saw this graph the other day, and it explains so much. People, globally and on average, are getting dumber. I always somewhat suspected this. Certain films alluded to this (“Idiocracy” anyone?). Yet, seeing it on a graph explains so much.
Unenlightened people are seeking out other unenlightened people and breeding in prodigious amounts. Look at the programming we have on TV: “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”, “Duck Dynasty”, “The Ana Nicole Show”, “Dance Moms”, and the list can go on. Americans are getting dumber by the moment. Why?
All of this dumbing down has a purpose: The maintenance of control over people. Ignorant people don’t question the system. However… People who think, people who take the time to assess all data while considering all facts have opinions, discuss options, and purposely seek out the truth in all things. This is not what the people in power want. They want clueless, mindless sheep to (A) keep electing the same people who screw them over time and time again, and (B) keep filling up the pews and tithing their 10% to the church.
Now I could go down both paths (Political and Theological), but let’s just look at America’s spiritual underbelly in this article.
Take a look at this graph. This graph shows the following: The percentage of Americans who believe God created man, a percentage of Americans who believe that man is an evolved creation who’s evolution was guided by God, and the percentage of Americans who believe that we evolved from lesser lifeforms without any Godly input necessary.
As you can see. In 2012, 46% of Americans believed that God created us in our present form. Just as we are. Does this jive with the facts? Facts be damned. God made Adam and Eve just as they are, and just as we are now.
These people have clearly not analyzed all the facts. Have I made an over sweeping generalization? Perhaps. This is a factual assessment. These people are not seeing things logically. Plain and simple. Why can I be so certain?
Meet Homo Erectus. There is definitive proof that this hominid between 200,000 and 400,000 years ago was the first Hominid to use and control fire. Not us. Not Homo Sapiens, but our ancestor, Homo Erectus. Look at him. He’s us, but he’s not quite us. He is a very different human. He gave rise to Neanderthal man, and then to us. He used tools, lived in a socialized, hunter-gathering communities. These are all facts. Pulled from the soil of our planet, verified through many scientific disciplines, and has been verified again and again and again. We can follow humanity’s evolution into our present form through many diverse branches of Hominid going all the way back to when our branch broke free from our chimpanzee-shared ancestor about 7 million years ago. So either we have people lacking the mental capacity to understand this science as they continue to believe that we are precisely as we were originally designed by God or they are self-delusionary. At this point, I don’t know what’s worst: people incapable of understanding facts or deluded people.
That’s 46% of Americans. Nearly 1 out of 2 Americans don’t care about facts. They believe what they want to believe in direct opposition to whether what they believe is factual or not.
Let’s look at the next 32% of Americans who believe in Evolution, but think that God’s been guiding this process. Interesting, but odd. If we roll back the clock about 200 years, how many religions were saying, “God created the heavens and the Earth. Incrementally. Over a long period of time, and used the evolution of species to create Adam and Eve”.
Answer: None. This is just a back pedal. A lazy rationalization of another group of folks who don’t want to think too hard. “Yeah… Okay. I’m stupid, but I’m not THAT stupid. Evolution is obviously true, but God must be in there SOME PLACE, right?”. Wrong.
How can I be so certain?
Evolution is one of the best proven theories of all time. Geology, Biology, Genetics, Paleontology, Archeology, and so on all converge in proving and linking all the different aspects of Evolution. Yet… No evidence of any supernatural involvement. No smoking gun to show the guiding hand of God. Nothing. Nyet. Nada. People are sloppily injecting God into Evolution because they like the warm, fuzzy vibe they get when they group together in their churches on Sundays, and let’s not let facts get in the way of our religiously inclined folks having their Kumbaya moments here.
So, why did I say God has about 50 years of life left?
Because he is dying. Every God is a God of Gaps. The Judeo-Christian-Muslim God is no different. Gods can only exist in the gaps of knowledge that humans have. When we say, “I don’t know how that came about”, I’ll guarantee you’ll have some redneck schmuck say, “AH HA!!! GOD DID IT!”. No, Bubba.. God didn’t do it, we just haven’t figured it out yet.
Take Abiogenesis. This is the theory about the initial spark of life. How did life begin on Earth? At one point, Earth was a lifeless chunk of rock floating around our young sun. Surely, then, God must have arrived on the scene and got the whole life ball rolling. Right? Probably not.
The moon Titan, in orbit around Saturn, is an interesting world. It is a rare moon with a thick, fully developed atmosphere consisting mostly of nitrogen (94.8%) with methane, hydrogen, and lots of other hydrocarbons as well. Scientists believe that Titan’s current atmosphere may represent Earth’s early atmosphere prior to the introduction of life to our planet. If abiogenesis is to work, it should follow these paths: Atoms organized into molecules, elements, and compounds. If a carbon atom is involved, then you have an element or compound that is organic in nature (methanol, methane, carbon monoxide, etc.). Organic chemistry leads to biochemistry. Biochemistry is life.
When abiogenesis is finally answered, it will fall between the study of organic chemistry and biochemistry. Already, there are experiments proving to be quite interesting.
Years ago, an experiment was designed by Carl Sagan to recreate the chemistry of Titan’s organic rich atmosphere. It was determined that the atmosphere, under ultraviolet bombardment, would create a rusty-red compound known as Tholins which would be brimming with organic molecules. These tholins would fall to the ground of their world and form a thick blanket of organic material that actually could be used as a bacteriological food source. Sagan now introduced a little bit of electricity into his beakers of tholins and guess what appeared? RNA molecules. Yes folks, the precursors to DNA. Now we’re on the verge of that transition from organic chemistry to biochemistry. Conceivably life on Earth started as our hydrocarbon rich atmosphere started to condense and then, water began to fall, and lightening appeared, striking the thick mats of tholin and creating RNA strands. Another experiment just concluded where massive energy striking organic molecules created RNA strands (https://www.centralmaine.com/2014/12/08/scientists-re-create-what-may-have-been-spark-of-life/). In this scenario, the energy that may be produced when an asteroid strikes a planet teeming with organic chemistry. Once again, RNA proteins are created by this experiment.
So, again… Why is God dead in 50 years? Because in 50 years, we will have probably detected life outside of Earth. Within the crevasses of Mars, under the oceans of Europa, or living at the edge of a methane sea on Titan, life may not be as rare as us myopic humans would like for it to be. We may have the technology in 50 years to actually detect life on other planets outside of our Solar System.
…And the last remaining question regarding the genesis of humans on this planet: Abiogensis? Oh yeah, we’re really close to showing that the magical click of God’s fingers is not necessary for life to start, and it’ll really be nothing more than the correct application of atmosphere, organic chemistry, pressure, time, and energy.
It’s going to happen. Life will be detected elsewhere, and the mechanisms behind the start of life will eventually reveal itself. No God need apply. That will leave 78% of the American population completely wrong in their beliefs..
